Burn Your Bridges

Did you know “burning your bridges” originates with the Spanish explorer, Herman Cortez when he conquered Mexico. When Cortez arrived in Mexico, he was confronted with a superior Aztec force. To ensure there was absolutely no way his soldiers would escape back to the ships, he went down to the ships one evening and burned them. Now retreat was impossible! His soldiers were forced to remain and fight. Cortez had removed any excuse for retreat!

Burn Your Bridges

Regretably, we’ve turned into experts at making excuses and you’ll by no means prevail over those things you desire to change as long as you continue to make excuses for them!

It is really not the situations all around us that impact us but it is us that determine those things around us!!! This means you choose how you’ll respond to something! It indicates you choose whether or not you will make a change or not! This means you are able to take control of your surroundings! This means… no excuse!

The truth is you are able to change any undesirable behavior you would like to change. Just how much pain must you endure before making the required changes in your life? It is much better to prevent that pain than to suffer through it! Prevent the pain…change your life!

Here are five steps to help you burn your bridges, stop making excuses and, avoid more pain in your life.

1) Instead of creating excuses, assume responsibilty! “Making excuses” is an particularly difficult habit to break. It simply comes naturally to the majority of of us. Learn to take responsibility for your actions and you life.

2) Acknowledge that something is awry! You’ll never be capable of changing something so long as you don’t admit there is a problem. Assume responsibilty and admit that you’ve got a problem.

3) Only speak in a positive manner! Your mind believes what it hears over and over again. You won’t change yourself or anyone else by saying negative things. People want to feel better about themselves before they’re able to make changes for the better.

4) Don’t put yourself in a situation to have to make excuses! Everyone has control over their behavior and all of us is able to decide not to do something. Make sensible decisions before something happens.

5) Be proactive! If you learn to be proactive, it will be possible to take charge of your life and make sensible decisions. Being proactive means being conscious of your choices before you make them and considering what you’re about to do before you do it! Being proactive allows you prevent a considerable amount of pain in your life!

Excuses are simply bridges we have built to retreat back across. They take us back to the way things were when we were on the other side. Do you desire to live life as it was intended to be lived? Do you desire to prevent as much pain as you possibly can in your life? Do you desire to be the type of person everyone wants to be with? Be like Cortez and burn those bridges (excuses) behind you! When there is no retreat, the only way to go is forward!

So are you truly “All In” or are you going to quit in 30 days, 60 days or tomorrow?

…Most people who have had success were right on the brink of quitting, but they kept going and finally had success.

It all came from the decision to never quit!
